Lister Community School

An exceptional school: Our vision is a world class education for young people in Newham. Lister is an 11-16 comprehensive school at the heart of its community.  In our December 2018 Ofsted the inspectors found that the school has maintained the good quality of education and ‘made strong progress in many aspects of the school’s provision‘ since our last inspection in September 2013. Our many strengths are highlighted, including how students are ‘courteous and articulate’ and ‘say they enjoy school and value the wide range of opportunities they are given’. We are very proud that the report recognises our high aspirations, the hard work and good behaviour of our students, and the dedication and commitment of our staff.

Lister is embarking on an exciting stage of developing its support services for the school and we are seeking a dynamic, professional and high quality individuals to join us in our aim for excellence in all areas.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  This appointment will be conditional on successful pre-employment and enhanced DBS checks.

We would ideally like these posts to start in September 2020, but may be flexible for the right candidate. We are willing to accept applications from candidates wishing to work part-time as well as full-time.

Academic Coach

 36 hours per week, term-time plus three weeks

Salary: Unqualified Teachers (Inner London) payscale  -  (£22,237 per annum)

Required for September 2020

 We are seeking to appoint a team of Academic Coaches to help students to engage with their learning and prepare for key assessments. This is especially important to the school in the context of the current closure and the implications for students who have found it hard to engage with learning. We are looking for positive and motivated individuals with a range of subject backgrounds who are able to work flexibly with individuals and small groups of students to help them raise their aspirations and close the achievement gap. The post would suit graduates who have an interest in pursuing a future career in teaching or individuals who have previous experience of working with children.

This role will include:

  • working with individual and small groups of students across the 11-16 age range, mostly in KS4;
  • liaising with colleagues about the progress of individual students and how to intervene effectively.

If you think you have the potential to work as an outstanding Academic Coach then an application form can be downloaded directly from our school’s website at:  http://www.lister.newham.sch.uk/vacancies/ or by contacting Jackie Young (HR Manager) on 020 8471 3311.

Please note: Applications will be considered as they are received and we reserve the right to close this position before the date specified above.  We therefore urge candidates to submit an application as soon as possible.   Due to high volume of applicants, we will only contact those candidates who have been selected to progress to the next stage of the process.
